RESUMO

Background: Nutrition is an important factor in the outcome of any disease process. We evaluated the relationship of nutritional status and inflammatory status of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients undergoing robotic-assisted thoracic surgery (RATS) with postoperative complications. Methods: This prospective cohort study included 107 NSCLC patients undergoing surgical treatment, between 2019 and 2021. Nutritional status and inflammatory status were assessed before pulmonary resection using anthropometric assessment, blood tests, and body mass index (BMI). Results: The BMI was 27.5 ± 4.4. Based on BMI, 29% (n = 31) were classified as normal weight, 43% (n = 46) as overweight, and 28% (n = 30) as obese. The mean neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) was 2.16 ± 0.85, the platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR) was 121.59 ± 44.21, and the lymphocyte/monocyte ratio (LMR) was 3.52 ± 1.17. There was no increase in the number of intraoperative complications or bleeding (p = 0.696), postoperative complications (p = 0.569), mean hospital stay (p = 0.258) or duration of chest drain (p = 0.369). Higher inflammatory status, with an NLR > 1.84, was associated with more overall postoperative complications (p = 0.028), only in univariate analysis, but this significance was not maintained on multivariate analysis. Conclusions: BMI was not a predictor of increased postoperative risk in this cohort; therefore, weight should not deter surgeons from using RATS for pulmonary resection.

Background: Drug Checking Services (DCS) have proven to be an effective intervention thatallows access to safer consumption practices for the population. This study focuses on the userpopulation engaged in Chemsex practices. Materials and Methods. A descriptive analysis of substance samples provided by individuals participating in Chemsex practices, with a focus on methamphetamine (METH), mephedrone, and other synthetic cathinones. Data were collected bythe Drug Checking and Sexuality Counseling Service (DCSCS) of Chem-Safe (Energy Control).Sociodemographic characteristics of users, substance acquisition contexts, and chemical composition were examined. Results. The Chem-Safe DCSCS user population engaging in Chemsex sessions consists predominantly of middle-aged men. Fifteen different substance typologieswere analyzed, with METH and cathinones predominating. In the case of METH, adulterationthrough addition was found, with a predominance of the smoked route (50%). Synthetic cathinones showed a high rate of adulteration through substitution, with a preference for intravenousand insufflation routes (41.67% each). Conclusions. The main substances analyzed by DCSCS areMETH and synthetic cathinones, revealing differences in acquisition, administration, and adulteration contexts. This contributes to an increased health risk for users. (AU)

RESUMO

AIM: Vaccination against SARS-CoV2 has been proposed as a fundamental element for the control of the pandemic. This study aimed to describe the suspected adverse reactions (ADR) reported by vaccinated hospital workers. METHODS: A descriptive study of suspected ADR was conducted between January and March 2021. The suspected ADR were identified using a specifically designed electronic form and spontaneous reporting. Data were also collected regarding the characteristics of the professionals, vaccine administered, severity, and outcome of ADR. RESULTS: 8169 professionals received 2 doses of SARS-CoV2 vaccine (6672 Comirnaty® and 1497 Spikevax®) and 894 reports of suspected ADR were reported (762 for Comirnaty® and 132 for Spikevax®), resulting in a cumulative ADR incidence of 10.94% (95%CI: 10.27-11.62). The majority of ADR were reported only after the second dose, 497 (56.2%), while 211 (23.6%) were reported only after the first dose and 186 (21%) after both doses. The symptoms were mostly mild, did not require medical assistance, and disappeared within approximately 3 days. One hundred and seventeen professionals had a history of COVID-19 infection. These studies reported, statistically significant, more suspected ADR after the first dose (42.7%) than those with no history of COVID-19 (20.7%). Among professionals, more ADR occurred after the first dose with the Spikevax® vaccine (41.6%) than with the Comirnaty® vaccine (20.5%). CONCLUSION: The majority of suspected ADR reported were described in the summary of product characteristics (SmPC). Professionals with a history of COVID-19 reported more suspected ADR after the first dose than did those without a history.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) can leave negative impacts on one's health behaviors or social functioning later in life. Resilient characteristics have been shown to mitigate effects against risk behaviors in developing adolescents. However, clinical and research attention has rarely been given to jointly consider the effects of ACEs and resilient characteristics on health behaviors in Taiwanese youth. METHOD: A total of 200 individuals aged 15-22 years were recruited from primary care settings, communities, and schools. Participants completed questionnaires assessing their ACEs, resilient characteristics, and health behaviors. Univariate analysis was firstly used to describe the correlates of ACEs and resilient characteristics. Further multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to examine the association of both factors with health behaviors. RESULTS: More than half (61.5%) of those surveyed had been exposed to at least one category of ACE. Verbal (37%) and physical (21%) abuses were the most common types of ACEs. The counts in the ACE categories were associated with being involved in physical fights (odds ratio 1.28 [confidence interval 1.01-1.63]), property damage (1.29 [1.03-1.61]), running away from home (1.30 [1.05-1.60]), bullying victimization (1.37 [1.16-1.61]), and sleep problems/tiredness (1.25 [1.03-1.52]). Meanwhile, resilience scores were associated with decreased odds of infrequent seatbelt use (0.47 [0.23-0.97]), low fruit and vegetable intake (0.42 [0.21-0.86]) unsatisfied body image (0.46 [0.22-0.97]), and sleep problems/tiredness (0.37 [0.18-0.79]). CONCLUSIONS: ACEs and resilience characteristics play a significant role in shaping youth health behaviors. Further research should be undertaken to identify ways to build resilience against health risks in youth with prior ACE exposure.
